NAME

fixhpsp - fix up HP plotter spooler

SYNOPSIS

fixhpsp

DESCRIPTION

The fixhpsp command allows you to re-enable the spooler for the plotter, if it should fail for any reason. The current plotter job (the current graph) will be canceled, and fixhpsp will attempt to restart it.

If you are not currently logged in as root, you will be asked to supply the super-user password before fixhpsp will cancel the plotter job.

You will be asked for confirmation before beginning, so you have a chance to bail out. If you want to continue, type the letter Y, then hit RETURN. If, instead, you want to leave fixhpsp at this point, just hit RETURN.

The plotter spooling will be disabled temporarily. Before restarting the canceled plotter job, fixhpsp will ask you to reset the plotter. Make sure the plotter is powered up, reset, and on-line. Check that a clean sheet of paper is loaded, with the pinch rollers down. Also make sure the autoload option is enabled, to allow unattended use. Once the plotter is ready, hit the RETURN key on your terminal. Spooling will then be re-enabled.

If fixhpsp does not seem to fix the problem, check all the cables, and make sure the plotter's interface is properly configured, before trying again. The current requirements for the configuration are:

9600 baud
8 data bits
no parity
1 stop bit
XON/XOFF protocol

When resetting the plotter, it may be necessary to turn its power off, then on again. This will reset its communication interface, which may not be done if you simply reset the plotter from its front panel.
